I participated in this event on the Israeli-Palestinean conflict, a few weeks before the Park Slope Food Coop voted whether to have a referendum on a boycott on Israel.  The M.C., Constantine Kaniklidis, may be a medical doctor. He writes often at the Coop's, Line-waiter Gazette.

Film of Israt Pasha, comments by Ralph Dumain

An American-Bengladeshi film-student at Brooklyn Tech completed her "final film" and invited us to her class for a group showing.  I enjoyed meeting her teacher, Bruce, who was about to retire. Esperantist, Ferdinand Cesarano was also there. A few students were there, including one of Israeli background, showing a film about her family.  Here is Ralph Dumain's interesting review of the film, linked to Israt's work. Ralph is also interviewed in the film. Israt had interviewed me and Renata Ventura in the UEA-NY  Office.

SAVE THE CHILDREN--BEST COUNTRIES FOR CHILDREN

Miaj plej gravaj principoj rilatas al kiel plej pace, sane trakti INFANOJN. Yahoo demandas respektata organizo: en kiuj landoj kreskas infanoj plej sekure, sane, edukite kaj intelegente? La organizo, Savu la Infanojn/Save the Children influis min kiel juna plen-kreskulo, kiam mi donacis kvaronon de mia mono al gxi, kaj lastatempe kiam mi volantulas cxe UNO, mi konstatas ke gxi restas tre vigla organizo en pluraj landoj kaj konatigxis kun gxia reprezentaro. My biggest concerns are how children can live peacefully and healthy. Yahoo questions a well-respected organization: In which lands did children and mother grow most secure, in good health, and well-educated.  The organization, Save the Children, influenced me as a young adult, when I donated a quarter of my wealth to it, and more recently when seeing that Save the Children is active at the United Nations, where I saw its representatives at UNICEF meetings.  The USA has ranked at the 25th place (being in the 31st place in a previous year).  Scandinavian lands consistently rank high.  Several English speaking countries: Canada, Australia and Britain also rank high.  I will continue to support Esperanto as a Second Language, knowing that much of the information in English is mere propaganda from the USA. Thanks to Save the Childrens.

Neil-Nachum meets Arab Israeli Parliamentarian

In the summer of 2000 I rented a car in Israel for 3 days. In the first morning I spent some time with my daughter in Ashdod and dropped her off with cousins (who were born in Iran) near Tel-Aviv. After spending a night in Kafr Kassem at the Rabi'i Family (Saber, Samir, Abdu Ra'uf), which I met decades earlier. I called my daughter in the evening begging her to join me to no avail. She preferred being with her relatives.

I spent a day with Mahmud Wattad from Kafr Jatt, with whom I studied Arabic. His uncle was a member of the Israeli Knesset, Muhammed Wattad, and I spent an evening with this MK in the 1980's in the parliamentarian's home.

I just noted something about the village Maghar. It is a very ethnically mixed village. Before driving up to Amirim I took a pause with a druze family in the village Maghar. I had thought it was an Arab-Muslim village, but it was a unique experience being with a young Druze family in Maghar (or Magher).

I also picked up a Druze soldier during my car rental.

Another highlight of the trip was visiting the daughter-in-law of Grisha Shutov, Esperantist, with whom I lived/ate for 6 months. Then I returned the car.

   En la somero de 2000 mi luis aŭton en Israelo dum 3 tagoj. En la unua mateno mi pasigis iom da tempo kun mia filino en Asxdod kaj liberigis sxin for kun kuzoj proksime de Tel-Avivo. Post pasigi nokton en Kafr Kassem en la Rabi'i Familio (Saber, Samir, Abdu Ra'uf), kiun mi renkontis jardekojn antaŭe.
